The Berry Street Education Model Masterclasses are one-day workshops for participants to implement and sustain the Berry Street Education Model.

These special masterclass days are valuable opportunities for educators to extend their knowledge, re-connect and further their application of the model. Our masterclasses are a great way to collaborate with like-minded educators in our growing community of practice.

While each class has a different focus, we have designed the program to be informed by research, anchored in practice, and aimed at building sustainability and consistency in the Berry Street Education Model across a whole-school approach.

Restorative Practices vs Fair Consequences: reframing your whole-school positive behaviour approach

An exclusive masterclass with Tom Brunzell, Director Education, Berry Street

A consistent whole-school approach to school wide positive behaviour is essential for struggling students - and all students. However, schools struggle to revision their systems around restorative practices and fair consequences year-to-year when meeting the needs of their changing student cohorts. Through the trauma-informed and wellbeing-informed lenses of the Berry Street Education Model, we have developed tools and ways of working to assist the design and re-imagining of whole-school systems to support positive behaviour. Tom will share a number of strategies to support school leaders to work collaboratively with their staff to ensure that their own school-wide systems are trauma-aware, developmentally-appropriate and viewed as fair for all members of the school community.

Learning Outcomes

Participants will learn to:

  • Build-upon what is already working well with the aim of creating whole-school consistency for all staff members
  • Review and/or reimagine their whole-school approach to positive behaviour support for all students with a specific focus on struggling students
  • Explore the necessary strategies to implement both restorative practices and fair consequences
  • Apply trauma-informed positive education strategies to ensure that each step in whole-school behaviour management empowers both students and teachers
  • Integrate staffing structures to ensure implementation success

Please bring the following materials for discussion within this master class:

  • Your school’s pre-established values, code of conduct, or other student expectations documents
  • Documents which explain your school’s current whole-school behaviour support process and/or School Wide Positive Behaviour Support matrix
  • Your school’s current strategic plan

Who Should Attend

This masterclass is aimed at School Leaders, including Principals, Deputy & Assistant Principals, Wellbeing Leaders, Student Managers and school leaders who are responsible for whole-school behaviour support.
